What Is GeoToolbox for Virtual Earth?
BizMaps GeoToolbox provides a set
of integrated spatial services that ensures your data is utilised to its full potential
within Virtual Earth. GeoToolbox combines custom .NET components, Oracle stored procedures and
Microsoft MapPoint WebServices in a seamless Web Service API. The main
features of GeoToolbox are as follows:
- Oracle Spatial
Connector
GeoToolbox
stores spatial data in Oracle Spatial format. Data is saved
and retrieved in raw OCI format for lightning performance.
GeoToolbox works with Oracle Locator which is part of the standard Oracle 10g
install rather than the much more
expensive Oracle Spatial product. Geotoolbox utilises Oracles built-in spatial functionality
(i.e. Point in Polygon, Boundary Select, Buffering, coordinate conversion
etc.).
- Non-Spatial Database
Connector
GeoToolbox
can also intergrate with non-spatially
enabled databases (SQL Server, DB2, Oracle
8i, etc.) by storing and retrieving data in OpenGIS
format in Blob fields. Custom .NET compoonents replicate Oracle Spatial
functionality. Thus you can leverage
your existing infrastructure environment without compromising your Virtual
Earth application.
- MapPoint Web
Service
Integration
GeoToolbox harnesses the advanced features of
Microsoft's MapPoint Web Services including advanced routing,
spatial selections, etc. and enables these functions to be
incorporated into your Virtual Earth solution.
- Vector
Server
GeoToolbox can
serve data directly from your database as shape objects
in Virtual Earth. Provide custom mouseover information
in formatted HTML served directly from your
database.
- Tile
Server
GeoToolbox can serve vector data
directly from your database as custom tile layers in Virtual
Earth. This allows vast quantities of data to be drawn which
would otherwise overwhelm Virtual Earth. The drawing
component provides a vast array of polyline, polygon, symbol and labelling
styles to create the exact look and feel required.
- Clustering
GeoToobox provides intelligent clustering of points at various zoom
levels within Virtual Earth. At zoomed in levels, all locations
are plotted on the map in their correct locations. However as
the user zooms out locations are clustered together, that
is a single location is displayed in the centre of a
number of locations that would otherwise overlap. This not
only gives a clearer view of data, it also allows for combining
of data via custom business logic. For example at a zoomed
in level all outlets in a town will be color coded based
on their individual sales, however at a zooomed out level a
single symbol can be displayed for the entire town with the color
determined by total sales of all outlets in the
town.
- Hosted Public
Data
GeoToolbox contains an array of
publicly available datasets which can be accessed by your
application without the need to store the data in your
database.
Datasets like GeoDirectory, Census of Population, Aerial Photography, etc. are
available via Vector and Tile Servers. This not only
eases your storage requirements and reduces
development time, it also provides considerable license saving versus purchasing the entire
datasets.
- Route
Optimisation
GeoToolbox solves the
"Travelling Saleman" problem to provide the most
cost-effective ordering of route stops.
- Topology
Validation
GeoToolbox can validate the
topology of digitised polygons to ensure they are closed and that
they don't
overlap. |
